twinkle twinkle little star

During the weekends or holidays when they kids doesn't have to go to the nursery, the first thing they do when they go downstairs is to switch on the TV. This morning Princess decides that she wanted to watch a nursery rhyme cd. Since Darien doesn't know how to talk very well yet, so I left the choosing to Denisha. While watching the twinkle twinkle little star song, Princess was singing along and acting out twinkle twinkle with her thumbs and fingers. I went over to have a look at them and I saw. Darien singing along (in a babyish language) and acting out the twinkle twinkle gestures with his thumbs and fingers. And from then on when I asked him how do you do "twinkle twinkle little star". He'll hold up his fingers and thumbs and start closing, opening, closing, opening .. on and on and on. Endless. When he was about 10 months old, the babysitter had told me that he's already known how to do that. And there I was thinking she's exaggerating. Hehe ... bad mommy!

While I was in the kitchen last night, I peeped out through the door to look at the kids. To my shock, Darien was on top of the sofa-bed. Gosh .. being panicky (afraid that he would fall down), I quickly rushed over to him and scolded him .... "Boy you'd better get down now. If not Mommy is going to punish you". Then he gave me a cheeky smile and quickly got down from the sofa. I told him .. "That's a clever boy". And within minutes, he tried to do that again. And it goes on and on and on.

And again this morning while I was brushing my teeth, Boy walked in. Knowing that he'll lift open the toilet seat-cover, I put my leg on top of it. And guess what he did. He lifted my leg off the toilet bowl and lifted up the seat-cover (toilet is clean). Really a cheeky cheeky Boy.

Nowadays, Lil Darien is learning how to talk .. making out something that sound like a 'word'. The other day, I was feeding him milk. After finishing it. He said "Ater". And I thought I was hearing things and I hold up the bottle to him again and ask. "What is this Boyboy?" He said again "Ater". I tried another time. And he said it again. Clever Boy! I was so excited. I shouted for Daddy to come into the room but as soon as Daddy came in, I asked him .. he doesn't want to say it anymore. He must be thinking .. "Silly Mommy .. ask me so many times for what. I've been telling her so many times its water". Hahahha.

He had been calling me 'Mama' since he was 6 months old. Whenever he cries and called for me .. my heart really goes all out for him. The funny thing ... he still doesn't know how to call Daddy yet. :)

1st Birthday

23rd October 2005:
Mommy and Daddy had a small birthday gathering for Boyboy at home. We invited Aunties, Uncles and cousins over. Everyone were having so much fun playing and screaming ... like a children's playground. Boyboy was walking and running after everyone there. He was so excited. After everything was over about 4 plus, Mommy prepared porridge for dinner. While eating, poor Boyboy was half asleep and Daddy had to gently wake him up to finish. Poor Boy! Right after the last spoonful, he fell asleep! Must be so tired from all the playing. Our Boy ... 1 year old. How time flies. Now, he's babbling a lot. Sometimes, it sounded like a word but maybe I was imagining it. Hmm .. dunno ... :)

Lil Darien is walking more without much fall today. Whenever he walks, he'll have that laugh on his face. Its cute when babies learn how to walk .. their stubby legs and bum swaying left and right. Eee .... soo soo cute. Its especially cute when you praise him. He' ll have the happiest smile on earth .. like he's seen a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Now that he'd almost mastered walking ... he's climbing on all kinds of things ... gosh! boys are rascals. Don't you all agree.

From his usual trip back home yesterday, I witness our lil' Boy clapped his hands to the tune played. I was so excited and was laughing away .. and he too, was laughing along with me. As soon as the music finishes, he stopped clapping and when it starts again, he will continue clapping ... so so so cute. Eversince then, he will be clapping at anything in sight. Hehe

Yesterday, we witness our little boy walking 1 .. 2 ... 3 steps then fall on his bum. So cute with 2 stubby legs learning to walk. When we encouraged him to walk to us. He would have the big smile and made his attempt. He loves it when we cheered.

Our little Boy can stand much longer than he usually does. Whenever he is standing all by himself, we will cheer at him. He would be smiling and looking proudly at us. Soon after, he would fall on his bum ... hehhe. So cute. Hopefully he will learn how to walk soon. :)

Kim came down from KT with hubby and kids. So, we had a small gathering with the rests of the college mates at Chilli's MV. Fed Boyboy earlier before reaching there so that he won't make a fuss halfway through our dinner. He was so good sitting in the baby chair entertaining himself - grabbing everything in sight. Hehehe. Right after I finished eating, he was whining already .. must be tired and sleepy. Some aunties took turns carrying him and after that he dozed off in my arms.

Little Darien really loves "Bear In The Big Blue House". Even if he's sleepy or whinny, whenever he hears the theme song, he'll stop whatever he was doing and listen to the music with much eagerness. Sometimes when he's in a good mood, he'll stand up and start to dance by shaking his bum bum. So cute. I must say Playhouse Disney is really entertaining. At least it keeps the kids happy all the time. :)

We went to Ikea at Ikano to shop for some household stuffs. At the end of it, I discovered Boy's diaper is a bit full .. so I decided to change him in the baby changing room. Its really clean there. And they have a roll of paper where you can use to cover the changing table. While I was changing Boy, another mother and her daughter (think she was over a year old) was there changing. To my horror .. guess what I saw. This mommy was holding the daughter to the sink and washing her bottom. Yucks man! It was really disgusting. The only comsolation for me then was the girl did not poo. Imagine if there's poo. Eeww! Don't these people have any sense of public cleanliness. I was totally disgusted.

Our little boy had fever last Sunday. He was crying thoughout the night leaving us with dark circles and eye bags beneath our eyes. Carried him on the bed, he made noise. He wanted us to walk with him in our arms. So tired .. weighing at close to 10kg at merely 10 months really gives us aching arms. Poor boy ... fever, flu and cough. His fever subsided today leaving him with a bit of running nose and cough. Well, at least he's not crying the middle of the night. He was really whiny .. only wanting mommy to carry. As soon as I pass him over to daddy, he would struggle so hard. If not, as soon as he saw my face he would show me his pitiful look and cry. Hmm ... so pampered! Hehe. We are hoping he would recover soon. Our poor little boy .. :(

Baby Blues

This time, I had baby blues as well but not as bad compared to the last time. I still don't feel too happy at times especially when people comment too much on things. Sometimes, I just feel like shutting myself and the children in the room so that I can have some peace. Just can't wait for this whole month to end.

Breastfeeding & Post-Partum Recovery

Breastfeeding the baby was easier compared to the time when I first had Princess. Milk flow was also better. Had some soreness and engorgement but it was bearable. Ai Ling came to check on me and baby Darien. Everything seemed to be ok.

My postpartum recovery was good. I can even walk on the 1st day after delivery compared to my 1st delivery.

Jaundice

Little Boyboy had a bit of a problem with jaundice. So, we had to sunbathe him in the early morning son. Had to go back to the doctor the following week for a check-up as well.

"D" Day

I had a feeling that today (22nd October 2004) seemed to be the "D" Day. I had contractions since morning that doesn't go off. It got worse in the evening. So, I called Princess's babysitter to let them know we will not be picking her up. Reached home at around 7pm. While waiting for Mark to come home, I took a bath and did some packing up before heading to SJMC. We stopped by at Shakey's for dinner. Had something good just in case I will have to go into confinement. It was a good dinner. By the time we finished our dinner, it was about 9pm.

The nurse did the usual check. I asked the nurse whether I can go back or not. She didn't allow us to leave 'cos I was dilated at 2cm. I was monitored the whole night through. I was lying there with all the equipments strapped onto my body. I was having difficulty walking to the bathroom. It was the worse night of my life. By the time the nurse put me on drip, it's 6am the next morning (23rd October 2004). My back was aching like mad from lying in an uncomfortable position for too long. Daddy is the worse ... he had to sleep sitting on a single sofa. Poor poor Daddy.

Intially the pain was bearable and slowly it became more intense but ok its still bearable. It became worse after 6 hours of drip. This time round I did not take any painkiller comparing to the normal jab I took the last time (that doesn't help at all). The only thing I took was the gas and it did not help either.

It took me quite awhile to push the baby out due to his head size. The baby's heartbeat was dropping. It was almost an emergency case. Dr Ang had almost use the suction cap but managed to push him out in the end. Thank Goodness .. sigh.

Worse scenario, after the baby was delivered, half of the placenta was stuck in the womb. The doctor had to scrapped it out. The pain was worse than ever .. no words can describe the pain I felt then. I was really bad. All was over and the baby was in my arms. He has a splitting image of his sister. Look very much alike.

The following day, had to go back to the doctor's clinic to check whether there are anymore remains of the placenta left inside. Was given some medication to contract the placenta out. Painful ... very painful. Uh .. what people used to say .. "No pain No gain"! Its good Mark managed to take the full delivery on video ... :)

We were discharged on the 25th October 2004. Thank Goodness this time round, the air-con is working fine. Went to the babysitter to pick up Princess. We had a nanny to help out for the 1 month.

Leg Cramps

These days I've been having problems walking and even sitting for long is a bother to me. And not forgetting the cramps I have in the middle of the night while sleeping. My right leg is giving me the worse problem. It always happen when I'm either doing too much work or sitting down too much. I'll have this pain on my right side of leg .. starting from waist downwards to my calf. Medical term is called 'sciatica'. Dr Ang says its because baby is pressing on my nerves. It gets worse each day.

I have been having contractions for over 2 months ... Braxton Hicks I think but worse, my pubic bone aches as each day goes by especially if I sit too much. But then when I get up after awhile of sitting down ... gosh! I will have problem walking. Just can't wait for the "D" day to arrive. Baby Darien is getting heavier each day .. mommy would really love to lift her load off her stomach. But doctor still says the "D" day will be 30th October 2004.
